JLC Parade Float Wins Award - Yahoo!
History repeated itself as the Junior League of Calgary produced another award-winning float entry for the Calgary Stampede Parade! Our 1981 float was recognized by the judges as the "entry which best exhibits originality, effort & involvement on the part of the group or community" and in 2010, the judges awarded our community-themed float second prize! No small accomplishment considering over 40 floats were entered in the Parade! Not coincidentally, the talented and creative Marlene Doherty lead the committee’s efforts both times! Congratulations to the industrious Parade Subcommittee. Working from the theme Women Building Better Communities, they had the idea to use building blocks to feature a different project as a nod to our past and celebration of the present. The blocks were carried by Junior League members or a representative from our partner agencies. A huge thank you to the agencies who sponsored blocks including: Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary, Calgary Reads, Children’s Cottage Society, The Golden Age Club, Highbanks Society, Kids Help Phone, Making Changes Association, Ronald McDonald House and Volunteer Calgary. Thanks also to members and friends of the Junior League of Calgary who sponsored former and current project blocks including Kids on the Block and Kids in the Kitchen. Congratulations to Marlene and everyone who worked so hard for another Junior League success!
